Dear Colleague

*Apologies for cross-posting*

Please find below details of UKCGE's forthcoming Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights & Knowledge Transfer which will be taking place on 20th April 2007 at Novotel, Bristol.

This workshop will give an update on the emerging policies for the management of Intellectual Property (IP) and key issues relating to Knowledge Transfer (KT) in Higher Education Institutions - coupled with an opportunity to network with professionals. Best practice and guidance will be shared on how to develop and embed policies for handling IP rights & KT arising from research programmes with PG Research Students, Post-Docs and academic supervisors. Case studies will be discussed and evaluated in small group format covering:

*	the equitable partitioning of IPR between HEIs and Industrial and other Sponsors,
*	the ethical issues arising from collaborative research with commercial organisations,
*	the development of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships,
*	the opportunities for the development of spin-out companies
*	plus the need for legal advice to protect the interests of the inventors, the HEI and Sponsors.

The differing perspectives of key stakeholders, including the Research Councils, the Charitable Institutions, Commercial Enterprises and HEIs will be reviewed and guidance on best practice available will be identified.

This programme has been designed for professionals who are managing, supporting or supervising PG Research Students and/or Post Docs, including Senior Administrators involved in managing IPR & KT, Graduate Deans, Principal Investigators managing Post Docs, PG Research Supervisors, Research Managers, Administrative and Staff Development personnel.
