Archives for London invites you to the next in its series of seminars,
to be held on 5 April 2007 at London Metropolitan Archives.

Hearth Tax Records for London

AfL is pleased to welcome Peter Guillery and Colin Thom, both of English Heritage, to discuss Hearth Tax records, an often-overlooked resource for the history of London and its people. Colin Thom returns to AfL after delivering a very successful seminar in 2005 on sources for tracing house history; he will be providing a general introduction to Hearth Tax records, their accessibility, usefulness and pitfalls. Peter Guillery will then look at the sources in more detail using TNA hearth tax returns as case studies.

You will find this seminar useful if:
	*	you are interested in family, local or community history, particularly during the 17th century, and would like to learn about an additional resource which may be of use to you.
	*	you are a records practitioner and would like to expand your knowledge of London sources, especially those which have a bearing on local and family research.
	*	you are interested in using Hearth Tax records for any reason, and would like to know where and how to view them, as well as any potential pitfalls you might encounter with their use.

Doors will open at 5.30 and the talk will start at 6pm. Refreshments will be available. The seminar is an open forum and following the talk attendees are welcome to ask questions, exchange news, and discuss matters of interest. The event will finish at 7.30pm.

Please let Nicola Avery know if you are coming - e-mail her on: [log in to unmask] or telephone 020 7332 3816.

If you book a place but are unable to attend on the night please let Nicola know as soon as possible, as failure to do so may deprive someone else of a place if the event proves popular.
