What I read in these pages comforts me in an observation I proposed before.
 
Of course there is the question of the language (read me !), - but it does not explain for the NATO (Steve Linstead) thing, since most of the contributors in AACORN come from the North (Europe, US, etc). But we have to agree that very few of the networks on Art and Management that were quoted recently are "south European based" (I mean in Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Portugal).
Although the first Academies were created there.
 
And it brings me back to the frame of mind which is implied (I feel it anyway) when one speaks of "Art" in these pages.
 
Obviously (and this not a criticism of course, just a - may be irrelevant - observation) most of the contributors refers to contemporary or modern art.  
This introduce, in my opinion, a bias in considering works of art in a post romantic frame of mind, as pieces produced on a "tabula rasa" (Hegel) which emphasis in the creation process both the imagination of the author and his sense of the "market" (the public, this big romantic invention).
 
I expressed before in those pages that Art was more often referred as the production of "artifacts" that as a galaxy of sciences, theories, methodologies which have been developed initially (Winkelmann, von Schlosser) which have appeared mostly to understand the "old masters" (a term which generally refers to pre romantic creators) in order to establish authorship, filiations, influences, meaning of content, explanation of style. All aspects which can be considered as constraints on the creator.
 
Very few if written in theses pages on the use of all this corpus of knowledge on "old art" to explain that other great (and ancient) activity of mankind that is "management" (besides religion, politics, social organization, etc.)
 
In think it could be a less metaphorical way to relate Art to Management and Organization and probably a productive one.

The diversity of stuff listed appears to suggest that if the arts-oriented discourses aren’t exactly mainstream, they are certainly widespread.  And in the spirit of tracing networks, it’d be cool to map out all the presenters and their various affiliations, keywords, gallery shows, etc.

I take it you’re not one of the penguins? Not yet? On the networks, I would guess that there are quite a few networks that others in aacorn have that I no nothing about. I just heard about Stanford’s ‘dschool’ (design school network), which I have no ties to at all. Also all the artists’ networks, which I know are really large and also have some crossovers. It’s kind of a curiosity exercise—we just had lunch with Karen Wilson from Harvard who’s running the European Foundation for Entrepreneurship Research which is dedicated to building entrepreneurship education networks here, and she was showing us all the network maps they’ve developed (and how those networks have grown over the last ten years). So I got to thinking about our own network of networks. It seems we’ve already informally created an Academy of Arts-based Mgmt. now—Pierre’s Arts and Business Academy; if things keep moving along, it well may happen in a more formal way, maybe turning NUROPE into a more full-time and international endeavor. D

WOW! Sounds like someone ought to bring all these folks together and form one arts based Academy of Arts-Based Management!

 

Just kidding! I think you are one of a very few people who could have brought all this to one page, Daved! Now the question is how do we create some kind of linkage outside of your remarkable brain?

 

A single observation. Notice that this seems to exist outside what Steve Linstead (http://www.linstead.net/)  and others once labeled NATO - the North American Theory of Organizations -- in a paper for ANZAM (The Australia/New Zealand Academy of Management) that was loosely titled "After Us There's Only Penguins" but I'm not sure one can trust a bloke with his own domain name!

In light of the last comments on the Academy Arts and Art Underground, I got thinking more about Gökçe¹s questions below. I answered privately, but maybe it would be interesting to see what our various networks look like (the ones more dedicated to art, aesthetics, and design). I think we have quite a few actually, some of them overlapping a lot, but others more loosely connected (which according to the network research means that we are much better off‹more creative happenings). Dear Aacorners,

Nowadays I am trying to prepare a paper for the National (Turkey ) Congress on Management and Organization why the relationship between the firm and the arts; as another issue ³art management² is neglected by Turkish Management scholars. Art Management departments are either under Communication or Fine Arts Faculties in Turkey and until now there is no effort in Management Faculties/Economics Faculties or Business Schools for that area. As far as I know I am the first one who is writing a PhD on art investment and strategy in a Business School.

I would like to ask to 216 members (thanks to Hilde) of AACORN for

1.      other networks on art and management around the world like AACORN

2.      for the structure of the interdisciplinary department which is working on art/culture and management ,under which faculty it is established (the scandinavian examples are the ones I want to benchmark but I would like to figure a pattern)  if any Bachelor degree is given on arts management

3.      Any academic meeting (other than the ones announced in AACORN like Gattieres, EGOS subtrack 21, Art of Management,  Academy of Management)

4.      As an academic are you coming from a Management/ Economics background?

 

For sure the above mentioned questions are somehow the full track of AACORN but I have been checking programs and for sure some academic names for some time but this random checking in close circle does not satisfy me in content and in methodology.

So I would very much appriciate if you are willing to give information on my naïve questions or make suggestions on methodology.
