He's confident his old-man's hairy leathery skin repels most mosquitoes, so long as his tender inside-arms are under the sheet. He reckons her smooth skin will nourish this and any blood-sampling insect. Why get out of bed in search of spray? Lie low till it's gone away. On a stagecoach to Nevada Mark Twain's chance travel- ling companion held still while the mosquito sank its tube in her arm, then smash, another 'musketeer' crushed. She let the corpses pile up. Our prolonged drought means most breeding-grounds have dried up. Rare here this year the muskeeter. Meantime it's a circling mmm in the dark room of 2 a.m. Given its pause by her cheek, and her readied slap, it may soon be a red smear.
