medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Question on "Dictatus papae"

DP 10 is to be understood in the sense that during liturgy the name of the supreme pontiff alone should be recited (and not, e.g., the name of the emperor).

In DP 11 name is to be understood in the sense of title or position. The latin word “nomen” has both meanings (for instance nomen imperatoris is not the christian name of the emperor but his title)

Betreff: [M-R] Question on "Dictatus papae"

I was discussing Gregory VII's "Dictatus papae" with a class this morning, and we found ourselves puzzled by the two clauses that deal with the papal name: That his name along shall be spoken in the churches and That this is the only name in the world (translation from the internet medieval sourcebook). Does anyone have a sense of just what this might mean?
