Subject: [M-R] Dressing Statues
Hi everyone.
I was forwarded this query from a colleague. It’s stumped me, so
any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
----------
I have a parish church in London that prior to the
Reformation had four coats for the Virgin Mary. It seems they dressed a statute
for festivals. I was wondering if you could suggest an article or book that I
could read re. the practice. Thanks.
“four coats for Our Lady, of tawny velvet embroidered, of
blue velvet and gold, of white satin of Burges embroidered, and of white
chamlet embroidered”
----------
Best,
Matt
