Dear colleagues,

This is a final reminder for the expression of interest in participating in
the inaugural meeting of the ECREA Communication Law and Policy Section, in
Leeds (UK) on March 9, 2007.

 

Carole Tongue, former MEP  and particularly well known for her work on
Public Service Broadcasting and the Culture Committee of the European
Parliament will be giving a keynote address on Television Without Frontiers
and Cultural Diversity, followed by a round-table discussion with all
workshop participants.

 

Richard Corbett, MEP, a leading proponent of the European Constitution will
give an open key-note speech on The EU at 50: The End of the Federal Dream? 

 

The aims of this meeting are:

-to identify current and urgent issues in communication, culture and media
policy in Europe and the EU in research and in policymaking

-to identify and map a trajectory of research-centred activities for the
section, involving international and cross-institutional collaboration

-to identify the possibilities for intervention in policymaking through the
organization of core specialist group/s

Expressions of interest in participating in this first meeting should be
sent to [log in to unmask] by February 20, 2007 (slightly extended
deadline). Limited places!. 

 

This ECREA section meeting is sponsored by the University of Leeds, under
the auspices of the Centre for International Communications Research in
collaboration with the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence. No fees
will be charged. Lunch and coffee will be available for all participants.

The venue of the event will be the St. George Room at the University House
(Cromer Terrace, University of Leeds Campus, Leeds, LS2 9JT, Tel. +44 (0)113

If you cannot attend the event but are still interested in being informed
about the section's activities, please send an e-mail indicating your
academic affiliation and research concerns. 

 

If you are interested in participating in the event, please send an e-mail
with a 'short bio' paragraph, including your current academic affiliation,
current academic position and research interests in the field of
communication, media and cultural policy. It would be very useful if you
could state in one sentence your main motivation to join the section, and
the projects or proposals you would like to share with the rest of the
