Yesterday I received a letter from the Electoral Commission basically
stating that as I had recently moved home I may not be on the Electoral
Register. This letter was in my maiden name. I am on the Electoral
Roll under my married name. I have most of my financial details etc. in
my maiden name. Anyway, I phoned one of our Electoral Registration
Officers who stated that they had received several complaints about this
and he gave me the number of the Electoral Commission.

I eventually got through and said that I had not consented to my details
being used in this way and it was a breach of the DP Act and the
gentleman said it was not and the company they got my details from had
given them a statement to say that they were fully compliant with DP.
As you can imagine I said I can assure you they are not as I am a DPO
and certainly did not give my consent to my details being used in this
way. He said he would get the "Data Company" and he did vaguely mention
"Direct Marketing" too to call me. I doubt if I will receive one but
in any event, a complaint is going in to the IC.

Regards,
Doreen Broom
