Apologies for cross posting... Applications are now invited for a funded PhD Studentship in Events Management from The School of Business & Enterprise at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, on the topic of 'Sustainability of event-led regeneration projects'. In recent years, events have increasingly been incorporated into commercial and political agendas to assist urban regeneration projects throughout the UK. It is now fairly standard for many local, regional and national organisations to capitalise on the popularity of events in order to support other economic, social and political policies and projects. Such instrumental uses of events have changed the way they are perceived, planned and presented. However, the long-term impacts of such strategies are often viewed as secondary to the immediate changes such projects can provide. This study will explore the economic, social and environmental sustainability of event-led regeneration projects. The aim is to assess the sustainability of key strategies informing event-led regeneration projects and to evaluate the continuing impacts (positive and negative) of such projects throughout time. The various factors that led to the implementation such projects and their multifarious effects on communities and places will also form part of this study.
