Applications are invited for the newly established Chair in Archaeobotany
available from 1 September 2007.  Candidates should have an outstanding
research record and an international reputation in the field, together with
the ability to lead innovative research projects and the ambition to build
still further the Department’s research and postgraduate activities in
bioarchaeology.  As a senior member of the Department, the successful
candidate will have the opportunity to help guide the Department’s future
direction.  They will contribute to the teaching programme at undergraduate
and Masters level and supervise MPhil and PhD students.

The person appointed will join a busy Department which enjoys a strong
research culture; there are 20 members of staff (including four support
staff and four researchers).  There is a strong commitment to archaeological
fieldwork, and staff direct projects in the UK, Europe and the Near East. 
Affiliated interdisciplinary research centres include the Centre for Spartan
and Peloponnesian Studies, the Centre for Late Antique and Byzantine
Studies, the Institute for Middle Eastern Studies and the Underwater
Archaeology Research Centre.  Set in the heart of the University Park
campus, our building also houses the University Museum and the Trent and
Peak Archaeological Unit.

The University has recently invested in developing its infrastructure in
archaeological science, with new research and teaching laboratories and a
new electron microprobe analyser.  Departmental staff have also developed a
close working relationship with the nearby British Geological Survey,
including a number of projects using their stable isotope analysis facilities.

Salary will be within the Professorial range, minimum £49,607 per annum.
