Subject: LLUK Focus Groups - The strategic direction and development of
the libraries, archives and information services workforce!

Dear colleague

Are you responsible for the strategic direction and development of your
workforce?

If so, these are exciting times and LLUK would like you to attend to a
focus group to explore and discuss research findings relating to current
and future workforce skills issues. In addition we wish to consult with
you as part of revising the National Occupational Standards for the
sector. These 2 events, planned as part of the MLA/ LLUK Strategic
Partnership Agreement, will take place on Monday 26th February at the
Royal Armouries in Leeds and on Tuesday 27th February at HMS Belfast in
London.

LLUK, the Sector Skills Council for the lifelong learning workforce aims
to ensure that lifelong learning employers can recruit, retain and
develop highly skilled and effective staff, so that everyone in the UK
across all industry sectors are able to gain access to the skills and
knowledge needed to build a prosperous and inclusive society.

Within the next 12 months LLUK will have completed the Sector Skills
Agreement process and will be developing action plans relating to our
sector's priority skills needs. LLUK is working in partnership with MLA
and through a network of contacts to ensure that this work accurately
represents the skills required by those working in libraries, archives
and information services and will identify the types of skills gaps that
exist and give us the information needed to plan for future workforce
development. These focus groups will give you the opportunity to become
engaged in this process and ensure that the LLUK action plans reflect
your priority skills and workforce development issues.

There will also be an update on progress on the Standards Development
work from over the last 10 months and a discussion and presentation on
the outcomes of the consultation events held during 2006.

Both of the workshops will start at 10.00am and finish at 2.30pm
including lunch and refreshments.

If you and/or colleagues wish to attend could you please complete and
return the attached response form to [log in to unmask]
<BLOCKED::mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Wednesday 21st February
2007. In addition, LLUK would appreciate your support in promotion of
these events through your own networks.

Thank you for your support.
