Hi Alison,
The Research Councils have funds available to support a variety of activities and resources for teachers and are involved in various schemes.
RCUK runs a scheme called National Science Week Awards and funds are available of up to £2000 for activities carried out during National Science Week. Public debates, talks, exhibits, hands-on demonstrations and laboratory visits to inspire the next generation of scientists are all examples of suitable activities. This scheme is run annually and will run again in September this year. Schools cannot apply directly to this scheme but can work with a researcher to apply for funds to run an activity.
As per previous posting, RCUK are involved with the Nuffield Bursary scheme which helps students to work alongside practising scientists. Students (rather than schools) receive a bursary to do science based projects, lasting 4-6 weeks, which take place in Universities or industry during the summer holidays.
And also, as per Andrew's message, PPARC have a Small Awards Scheme that offers up to £15k for projects relating to the communication of PPARC science areas is also open to schools. For more information visit: www.pparc.ac.uk/sasawards
.For more information about all our schemes and other support available then visit our website at: http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/sis/linksci.htm or feel free to contact us directly.
Kind Regards

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Funding for
schools?
*Apologies for cross-posting*
Hello everyone (is it too late to be wishing a Happy New Year?)
I'm hoping the immense PSCI-Com brains & experience out there can help me - I am trying to compile a list of funding sources which Schools or Teachers can apply for, to help them with paying for science activities, whether internal or external. This could be in partnership with scientists, for them to run science activities or for getting to external events and so on.
Any information on funding sources you know of, no matter how small, obscure, regional or unlikely would be most appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation...
Alison.
