I don't know if the below link is of any interest to others, but
peripheral or subliminal vision as a factor contributing to the large
number of nervous breakdowns, panic attacks and acute psychotic episodes
being reported over the past decade or so seems partly explained by this
research.

The flashing hard disk light on a computer tower beside a monitor or
continuously turning sideways to read from a printed text while the
screen is still active (that is not blank) for eight hours a day every
day for a month may cause a psychotic breakdown according to this site.
I don't know if this site is real, of course.
