Katherine Thomas Cynghorydd Cyfleoedd Cyfartal CyMAL: Amgueddfeydd Archifau a Llyfrgelloedd Cymru -------------------- Public authorities are now subject to a new Disability Equality Duty which came into force on 4 December 2006. This new statutory duty requires public authorities to pro-actively promote equality of opportunity for disabled people as well as to prevent discrimination already unlawful under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. A short guide to the Disability Equality Duty has been prepared by CyMAL and is now available at www.cymal.wales.gov.uk. It provides an introduction to the Duty, highlighting how it may affect museums archives and libraries in Wales, and includes information on further sources of information and advice. It is a 'quick-read' guide designed to give an overview of the new responsibilities for all staff working in museums, archives and libraries. The guide is available in Welsh and English in 12 point clear print that can be blown up to large print size.
