Happy New Year folks,

Those of you with an interest in metadata (and I'm sure if you aren't
it
was one of your New Years resolutions to become so :-)) may be
interested in a new briefing reviewing the history and current state
of
play on the topic from Conrad Taylor, the Chairperson of the British
Computer Society Electronic Publishing special interest group. The 21
page briefing (with many illustrations and screen shots) covers the
etymology and developing use of the term over the last 20 years before
looking at some particular applications - image metadata and metadata
embedded in text files. Emerging standards such as RDF and XMP (a new
one on me) are also covered and there are many references to further
sources of information. Well worth a look.

It can be downloaded as a .pdf from
http://www.ideography.co.uk/briefings/index.html

Best wishes

Edmund Lee
