After 3 years of long hours of cross departmental work, the system will be ready in the following months. Please could you sent me the login details ([log in to unmask]). Is it able to factor in subject specialisms of notetakers too? [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Keith Bremer Sent: 24 January 2007 22:21 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Scheduling of support staff/NMH Sheenagh, Pauline, I must admit that I was surprised when I discovered that most people did this by hand - it's the kind of job for which a computer is ideal. So I've written a package designed to provide basic student information along with its more important function of assisting with note taker allocation. I'm interested in whether people are willing to try it out. Once set up with University details (faculties, departments, courses, etc) and the details of note takers' availabilty and students' timetables, the system tries to match note taker availability with student timetable needs. It presents you with a graphical representation of the timetable & availability and you can either allocate individual sessions, all matched sessions or even allow the system to allocate semi-automatically. I've attached a screenshot of the critical part - you just click on the coloured timetable/availability rectangles to allocate/edit/etc.... A major feature is that matching is done on a best-fit basis, so the top selections for allocation are those that match most timetable slots for any given student. The system also provides for printing out allocation schedules for both the student and the note taker. The software will be free - using the GPL (General Public License - see http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html). I'm still working on documentation and online help, but if you feel brave you can try out a demo that I have running on my wife's website at http://www.educadus.co.uk/nta/index.php. If you want to try it out email me and I'll send you the login details (I'm reluctant to publish them here in case some rascal tries to kill the server with a DOS attack). Best Regards, Keith Bremer.
