Hurford '60 Humanities Center of Haverford College invites applications for a two-year Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities to begin Fall 2007 from scholars prepared to explore the connections between photography, film and historical context. Area of specialization is open, but could include cultural studies, history of images, visual anthropology, philosophy, art history, or art criticism. Scholars focused on colonial or post-colonial settings are especially encouraged to apply. During the first year of the program, the Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellow will participate in a year-long faculty seminar led by Professor James Krippner (History) entitled "Photography, Modernism, and Post-Modernism," an exploration of film and photography in relation to historical disciplines and other fields. During each of the four semesters of his/her time at Haverford College, the Fellow also will teach one intermediate or advanced level course. Applicants should submit two brief course proposals relating to their areas of interest, one for a broad-based introductory or intermediate-level course, the other for a specialized or advanced course, Candidates who have received the Ph.D. in 2002 at the earliest or who have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by the application deadline of January 31, 2007 are eligible.
