Conference Announcement and Call for Papers An International Conference"Paradigms and Paradoxes"Issues in Primary and Secondary Trauma University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK6th and 7th September 2007 Organised by the Faculty of Health, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK In association with Psych-trauma jiscmail This two day event will combine an International Conference for Trauma Therapists with a Conference for other professionals who deal with trauma on a regular basis e.g. counsellors and psychotherapists, social workers, police officers, paramedics etc.. The conference, and its formally published proceedings, will contribute to the growing research and knowledge of trauma and human responses to traumatic events. The conference will provide an opportunity to hear presentations from eminent international researchers as well as smaller scale research and innovations in concurrent presentations. There will also be an opportunity to attend workshops. Hosted by the University of Central Lancashire the conference also offers unparalleled networking opportunities for delegates from the UK and overseas. The conference will be organised along two parallel themes dealing with both primary and secondary trauma:Children Communities, families emergency services and professionalsWithin those themes would be featured ethics, practice, research and theory. Conference Aims This conference provides an opportunity for individuals from a range of organisations and agencies to meet together with the aim of: * Creating an environment where practitioners, policy makers, researchers and advocates from multiple countries can find ongoing opportunities for learning and collaboration. * Exchanging information on effective models of care, intervention strategies, research, training and policy making to be utilised in different countries to improve care on a local, regional and national basis. Keynote Speakers include representatives from the USA,UK and Lebanon Call for Papers /Workshops Papers / Workshops are invited from any discipline or perspective relevant to the management or care of trauma victims and in particular those related to children. Proposals by practitioners, service users, decision and policy makers, as well as by academics, students, researchers and advocates are welcomed. These should be in line with conference themes as noted above. The organisers will consider papers relating to the following topics:· Models of care for effective interventions (Clinical Interventions)· Research programmes and results· Policy Development· Education and Training· Organisational issues · Minority Issues· Community Issues· Children's issues· Women's Issues· Trans-cultural Issues Abstract Guidelines Proposals should be titled clearly, limited to a maximum of 250 words and should be submitted by e-mail to [log in to unmask] On a separate page please list: · authors name and work address· telephone number at work, fax and email address· job title· title of abstract submitted· indicate if you wish to propose a workshop· brief biography of authors Conference proceedings will be published. In order for this to be facilitated as soon as possible, presenters will be expected to submit a hard copy and disc copy of the full paper to the Conference Organiser at least two weeks before the conference.
