Dear All,

We are looking for an electron microscopist, structural biologist, computational image processor or biochemist for structural studies of yeast prion fibrils using cryo-EM and single-particle image processing.  This is a really exciting project, and potentially an ideal post for a crystallographer wishing to cross-train into cryo-EM.
Please see the formal advert below, and bring to the attention of anyone in your labs who may be interested.

Best regards,
Neil Ranson

Research Fellow
Project Title:
Cryo-electron microscopy of yeast prion fibrils

This post, funded by the BBSRC, is available immediately for a fixed term of three years in Dr Neil Ranson’s lab working on cryo-electron microscopy and image reconstruction of yeast prions. Experience of cryo-electron microscopy and three-dimensional image processing of helical or single particle specimens is highly desirable. Data will be acquired using an FEI TF-20 microscope fitted with a 4k CCD camera and Gif2002 energy filter. Image processing will be performed using SPIDER, Imagic and EMAN within a state-of-the-art LINUX computing environment including a 150-processor cluster, and numerous distributed servers and graphics workstations. A PhD in structural biology, electron microscopy, biochemistry, image processing or a related area, and experience with and the ability to use technically sophisticated equipment are essential.

University Grade 6 (£21,682-£25,889 p.a) or University Grade 7 (£26,666 - £31,840pa)
It is likely that the appointment will be made at or below £26,666 since there are funding limitations which dictate the level at which the appointment can start.
