Subject: Public Geographies: project website

Hi All

Some may be interested in the following projects recently undertaken by
members of the 'Public Geographies Working Group' at the University of
Birmingham.

tion.htm> Making the Connection (Ian Cook, James Evans & Helen Griffiths).

An attempt to develop new school and university geographies that were more
engaged, challenging and socially inclusive. This project engaged and
involved publics through bridging the divides between university and school
geographies. The website is intended a) to illustrate the project so that
school teachers and academics contemplating such work might learn from our
attempts at collaboration; and b) to provide teaching resources for school
geography teachers looking for ways of making connections between young
people's everyday and taught geographies: in this case through a series of
resources and activities connecting banana consumption and farming and
mobile phone use and manufacture.

Under
<http://www.gees.bham.ac.uk/research/pgwg/Projects/Undercontrol/undercontrol
.htm> Control? (Emily Quinton)

An exploration of a personal recovery form anorexia through photography and
auto-ethnography. This project engages the personal with academic, gallery
and online publics.

Please check http://www.gees.bham.ac.uk/research/pgwg/projects.htm
<http://www.gees.bham.ac.uk/research/pgwg/projects.htm> for updates and
further project postings. And, please cross-post to any lists and people you
think may be interested.

Thanks

Ian
