italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Dear Colleagues,

As you may know, the Conference Freud in Translation, Freud in Transition was held 24-25 November at the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies, University of London. This was the opening event of an AHRC-funded Network on Psychoanalysis and the Arts and Humanities: a multilingual perspective – see http://igrs.sas.ac.uk/events/psychoanalysis1.htm - where further general information on the Network can be found.

The next stage is a year of seminars on eight areas within the Network’s field. Two of these will be run by CRASSH (Cambridge) and SIHR (Glasgow):

·         Histories & transmissions      at CRASSH (Convenor Mary Jacobus)

·         Pedagogy & practice             at SIHR (Convenor Amy Wygant)

Four language-based seminars will be developed based on an International Workshop to be held at the IGRS on 27 January 2007: further details of this Workshop will follow.

These and the other two seminars will be run at the IGRS in London, and will be coordinated via six jiscmails:

·         Psychoanalysis & the arts                                         http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-arts

·         Psychoanalysis & politics                                          http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-politics

·         Debates in the French-language field                       http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-french

·         Debates in the German-language field                      http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-german

·         Debates in the Hispanic-language field                   http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-hispanic

·         Debates in the Italian-language field                        http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/psychoanalysis-net-italian

To register with one or more of the groups, all you need to do is click on the link and register with your email address and your name. What is the purpose of these lists?

1.        You will be kept updated with details and any material for the meetings of the Network seminar groups and Conferences.

2.        You can share information and enter into discussion with other members anywhere in the world.

3.        In particular, these jiscmails are a way of staying involved with the seminar discussions even if you cannot get to the meetings. A fortnight before each meeting, a topic, question or text will be posted up on the jiscmail and discussion opened for a week, within which people may raise and exchange their views. Between the closing date and the seminar, the Convenor/s will produce a summary of issues raised, which will form the total or partial topic of that meeting. After the seminar, its discussions will be summarised and posted on the jiscmail again for commentary. These discussions will be archived and may form the basis for publications to be edited and produced during 2008.

In order to continue the discussion process which was set in motion by the presentations and debates at the Conference, we need your active participation in the groups.

With kind regards

Martin Liebscher
