SY ASS (10) 1

FACTOR STRUCTURE OF THE NORWEGIAN ADAPTATION OF SPIELBERGER' S STATE-TRAIT ANGER EXPRESSION SCALE (STAXI).

HASETH, Kjell; University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway.

The Spielberger scales STAS and STAXI as well as the Norwegian adaptation of these scales (STAS-N and STAXI-N) and their main psychometric properties are briefly outlined. The present study investigates the factor structure of the STAXI-N and relates the results to similar studies in Germany, Holland, and the US. The Norwegian study is based upon a sample of 444 undergraduate students and data are presented separately for males and females because some gender differences in the Norwegian data were observed. All STAXI items were factored in one and the same analysis and the test constructors' intended 6 factor structure was found to be the best solution for both sexes.

In separate analyses of test responses from students with elevated S-Anger scores, however, a 7 factor solution was found to be the most sensible. In this solution the SAnger items describing an urge to act out anger physically singled out and constituted the 7. factor. The results from separately factoring the 13-item S-Anger scale used in this study also indicated the existence of two anger experience factors -- a "feeling" and an "acting out" factor. The division of S-Anger into several subfactors has also been found in other countries and may indicate that this is not a culture-specific phenomena.

Subject: Spielbergers Anger Inventory

Dear all,

I have received a question from a colleague here in Norway, who is planning a study using Spielbergers Anger Inventory tool.

I’m not familiar with this tool:

The question(s) are:

a)     Can anyone provide information regarding the use of the Spielbergers Anger Inventory?

b)     The study involves “illness cognition and quality of life in the elderly, with peripheral arterial disease”

c)      Do list members know of any International Studies or those possibly done in Norwegian?

As you can see this is not really my area, but any replies will be gracefully received, if list members are able to forward this request to other lists, I would be grateful.

Best wishes,

Anthony Slater.
