Many many thanks to all of you who sent in your views, references, links and so on.  I’m still searching for more, with a particular potential focus on:

  • ‘old’ (but not necessarily grumpy) public geographies – what’s/who’s the earliest example…?
  • Key public geography books/collections 9and what makes them key)
  • Examples of use of radio, television, blogs and other media
  • Off-radar public geographies
  • Guardian articles on trendy, red-jacket-wearing academic fashionistas (or their like)…

Again, as before, no boundaries on this.

Cheers

Subject: PUBLIC geographies

Hello everyone

With everything that’s going on (petitions, confrontations, retorts, grumpiness, broadcasts…) it seems to be a particularly good time to ask if you could help explore the meaning, form, direction, definition, past, present, future of ‘public geographies’. **

I’m in the process of compiling two, maybe three annual progress reports on this theme for Progress in Human Geography and would like to gather examples of what you consider to be examples of public geography work, in journals, books, web-sites, brainwaves, activism, emails, chapters, radio, presentations, blogs, events, demonstrations, letters, participations, diaries, posters, videos, podcasts, engagements, television programmes, communities, wikis, reports, newsletters….

You get the idea – beyond (but including) journals, beyond the RAE, beyond the academy, beyond the UK/USA…

Suggestions of good/interesting/bad links, references, and so on very welcome.  Opinions on public geographies as a ‘new’ area of geography warmly received.  Rude awakenings regarding public intellectualism per se sought. Links to similar (or different) ‘public’ trends, fashions, developments in other disciplines happily hunted.

No boundaries.

Drop me a line (publicly or otherwise), ring me/leave me a message –, send me stuff (below) – all help will, obviously, be acknowledged, referenced, etc etc etc…

Please forward all over the shop.

Thanks
