Dear colleagues,

I am posting this on behalf of Will Cooban who is this year's Chair of Judges (so could you please address any queries to him at  [log in to unmask])

Once more nominations are being sought for the Dagger in the Library Award. More details are below, and guidelines and nomination forms are available at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/filearea.cgi?LMGT1=LIS-PUB-LIBS&X=&Y=&a=get&f=/2006CWAFlier.doc

Please note the importance of using an entry form and providing proof of being a library (or at least its staff or a Readers' Group!), it's such a shame when invalid nominations have to be discarded.

With thanks,

Judith Rhodes

LIBRARIANS WANTED ~  FOR CRIME…

THE CWA DAGGER IN THE LIBRARY AWARD 2007
SPONSOR ~ THE RANDOM HOUSE GROUP

Nominations are now being invited for the CWA Dagger in the Library Award 2007.
Judged by a panel of Librarians and sponsored by Random House with £1500 for the winning author, this book prize is becoming an increasingly high-profile award.

Jim Kelly, the creator of the popular Philip Dryden fenland mysteries, won the award last year and he says;
“Winning the Dagger in the Library was a huge thrill for me. After several nominations for my work it was terrific to finally land such a well-known national award…This Dagger prize is particularly sought after because it’s one voted for by `real people` - Librarians and Library Reading Groups.
Obviously the award is only as strong as the electorate who vote for it – so I’d urge as many libraries as possible to get involved in the nominating process. In the end, the Dagger in the Library is a reminder to the publishing world that they have libraries to thank for helping create the mass market for crime and mystery books from which they ultimately profit.”

The Dagger in the Library is awarded to “the crime fiction author whose work is currently giving the greatest enjoyment to readers”. Authors are nominated by UK libraries, library staff and reading groups, and judged by a panel of librarians.
As the award emphasises the role played by libraries in providing an audience for authors whose careers are developing, nominations should be for authors whose discovery has recently delighted readers, rather than long-standing favourites.

For more information and a downloadable entry form see the CWA website – www.thecwa.co.uk

All libraries whose nominated authors are short-listed for the award will be entered for a draw for two free tickets to the glittering CWA Dagger Awards ceremony in London in July 2007, where the winner will be announced.
