> Born in 1971 in Salzburg, Kathrin R> öggla has lived in Berlin since 1992. Her work continues the tradition of the post-war Austrian avant-garde, of mid-twentieth-century German theorists of modernity and post-modernity, and of techno music, in subverting generic and poetic conventions, and subjects language and experiences of German (and especially Berlin) society to both biting parody and playful critique. Many of her publications, for example her novel Abrauschen (1997), her short prose work Irres Wetter (2000), and several of her plays, have been highly acclaimed by the critics. Röggla has received numerous awards, among them the Bruno Kreisky Prize for Political Books in 2004, the Solothurn Prize for Literature and the Salzburg Literature Prize in 2005.
>
> Kathrin Röggla will read from her most recent novel Wir schlafen nicht, published in 2004. The work, based on interviews, is a revealing portrait of the lifestyles and attitudes of people in the world of business. The reading will be complemented by English translations of selected passages from the novel, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
>
> Other works include Niemand lacht rückwärts (1995) and Really Ground Zero. 11. September und folgendes (2001).
