Dear all, It is my sad duty to report the death of Alan Menhennet on Thursday 16 November. He had been suffering from poor health for a while, and died after a brief spell in hospital. Alan held the Chair of German at Newcastle University from 1976 until his early retirement in 1997. The funeral will be on Monday 27 November, 13.00, West Road Crematorium, Newcastle. Afterwards, there will be a reception in the New Kent Hotel, 127 Osborne Road, Jesmond, Newcastle. The family will take care of flowers and so would prefer it if donations could be made to the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) instead. Details of these arrangements will be published in the Tuesday edition of both The Times and the Evening Chronicle (21 November).
