1. Conference Website Updated

Visitors to the 2007 Harm Reduction Conference Website (www.harmreduction2007.org <http://www.harmreduction2007.org/> ) will have noticed the numerous new additions to the site. The Organizers section of the website has been enriched with a detailed description of the Executive Program Committee and the International Program Advisory Group. A new section, called “What HR Means To Me”, has been added, offering statements on the issue by some of the key figures in the Harm Reduction Movement.

2. Discounts for Early Registrations

The ‘early-bird’ registration fee offers you a discount of €100 on each registration where payment is made before 15th January 2007. To register for the conference, visit the conference website www.harmreduction2007.org/conftool/ . If you require a visa to enter Poland, please contact the Conference Secretariat [log in to unmask] and we will supply you with a letter of invitation to assist with the application process.

3. The Abstract Review Process is Underway

The abstract submission process has now been completed. Over a thousand abstracts have been submitted for review by the International Programme Advisory Group (IPAG) and the Executive Programme Committee (EPC), which are working hard to ensure that only the best of the submissions will have been accepted for presentation at the conference. The abstracts are currently being peer reviewed by the IPAG members, following which the final programme will be shaped by the EPC at its meeting in December.

We would like to thank all the authors for submitting their work and inform everyone interested that these chosen to present during the 18th International Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm will be contacted by early January 2007.

4. The Film Festival Deadline Approaching

“The Drugs and Harm Reduction” Film Festival is now accompanying the International Harm Reduction Conference for the fourth year in a row and it appears to have become a valuable fixture of this conference series.

The Warsaw IHRC 2007 Film Festival will uphold this proud tradition by seeking out to provide unique perspectives on the significant issues of harm reduction, drug use, minorities, poverty, organized crime and human rights as seen through the film-makers’ lens.

For the fourth year in a row, Simon Baldwin and Gary Reid of Australia’s Burnet Institute will bring the film festival to life through their Call for Films and their extraordinary film selection. The film festival will be integrated into the conference program as a parallel track. For information on the previous three film festivals, please visit <http://www.chr.asn.au/resources/filmfest> http://www.chr.asn.au/resources/filmfest.

A Call for Films and Film Submission Form has now been issued and is available for <http://www.harmreduction2007.org/downloads/Film%20Submission2007%20Form.pdf> download at http://www.harmreduction2007.org/downloads/Film_Submission2007_Form.pdf. Please note that the deadline for film festival submissions is the 15th of January 2007.

The above is merely a snapshot of the activities to date and much more information about the conference can be found on the website www.harmreduction2007.org <http://www.harmreduction2007.org/> .

Kind Regards,

Artur Krol
