Apologies for cross postings Post Title: Research Assistant, Humber Observatory, City-region Competitiveness in the Hull and Humber Region Location: Department of Geography This post is for a Research Assistant position working within the newly established Humber Observatory funded through HEFCE’s Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF3). The University is using HEIF3 monies to foster work between the university and its stakeholders in ways which might bring economic benefits to the sub region. The Humber Observatory will undertake research and policy-related work on the competitiveness of the Hull and Humber city-region. An initial part of the work of the Humber Observatory will focus upon the role played by the sub-region’s ports complex which forms a major focus for economic activity within the sub-region. The Research Assistant will play an important role in developing the work of the Observatory and the post provides a good opportunity for anyone seeking to develop a career in academic research and/ or in policy-related work, such as for local authorities and organisations involved with local and regional development. The successful candidate will also be eligible to register for a part-time higher degree (Masters or PhD). The post will involve a range of activities including: researching secondary data sources related to urban and regional competitiveness; undertaking interviews and surveys; report writing; presenting research findings; partner liaison; publicity and website content. Applicants should have an undergraduate (2.1 or above) and/or masters degree in an appropriate subject (e.g. geography, politics, economics, sociology, planning etc.).
