HANS MAGNUS ENZENSBERGER IN CONVERSATION WITH DAVID
CONSTANTINE
UEA LECTURE THEATRE 1
Monday 9 October
2006
7pm
Hans Magnus Enzensberger is one of Germany's most
distinguished writers
and thinkers. He was also a lifelong friend, editor and
mentor of W G
Sebald, who died five years ago this autumn just as his unique
and
remarkable voice was beginning to reach a wider public.
In
conversation with the award winning writer and translator, David
Constantine,
Hans Magnus Enzensberger discusses his relationship with
'Max' as well as his
own work as a writer and self translator, and his
relationship with the UK
and with the English language. They will also
look at the wider issues of the
status and responsibilities of the
writer in society.
The evening also
includes the presentation of the annual Translation
Prizes, celebrating the
best in contemporary translation.
