Dear all, CALL FOR SESSIONS, RGS-IBG CONFERENCE 2007: ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY RESEARCH GROUP Further details re: organising sessions for RGS-IBG 2007 can be found at: http://www.rgs.org/WhatsOn/ConferencesAndSeminars/Annual+International+C onference/Organising+a+session.htm The Economic Geography Research Group (EGRG) of the RGS-IBG seeks proposals for sessions at next year's RGS-IBG Annual International Conference, to be held 28th -31st August 2007 at the RGS-IBG, London. We already have some excellent suggestions, but have capacity to sponsor up to 5 sessions (single and joint). The theme of the conference is 'Sustainability and Quality of Life', with Professor Angela Gurnell of Kings College London as the conference chair. Under this theme a wide range of issues might be addressed including alternative theoretical notions of justice, alternatives to neo-liberal globalisation, rising rates of poverty, theoretical and practical conceptions of human rights, global anti-war and civic movements, environmental and labour movements for greater justice, debates about trade, about structural adjustment, about the role of NGOs, about multilateral institutions, about the implications of climate change, about rights to water, urban injustices, about the limits to growth, green politics, about difference and diversity and their challenge to universal notions of reason and rights, and many other key contemporary issues. Sessions can be convened in various ways, but RGS are encouraging the use of 20 minute blocks to allow delegates to transfer sessions should they so wish. This means that 5 papers can be presented within one of the 1 hour 40 minute sessions. Proposals for sessions should be sent to Mia Gray ([log in to unmask]) or Jane Pollard ([log in to unmask]) by 8 November on the proforma available at the RGS website. RGS will let all session convenors know if their sessions have been accepted by Friday 1 December 2006.
