Faculty Position in Community and/or Economic
Development
The Department of City and Regional Planning at the
University of California, Berkeley invites applicants for a full-time position
in Community and/or Economic Development, effective July 1, 2007. The position
is for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We are interested in candidates who focus on issues of community and/or
economic development; who work across scales, linking the local community to the
metropolitan region or the global economic system; and who have a demonstrated
ability to work with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and income groups.
We hope that qualified candidates can analyze the distributive and social
impacts of development; are fluent in quantitative methods, qualitative methods,
or some combination thereof; and apply knowledge and contribute research and
innovative thinking to planning practice and community
building.
Candidates for this position must have a research record and
agenda consistent with the standards of a major research university and
well-developed interests in professional practice. Those with a Ph.D. in
planning or related field will be given preference. Candidates must also
demonstrate the ability to teach and mentor students in the various programs of
the department. This includes large undergraduate classes for the Urban Studies
major; core courses, studios, and applied planning analysis courses in the
professional Masters program; and seminars in the doctoral program.
This
faculty position is expected to have connections to various campus research and
outreach initiatives, including the Center for Global Metropolitan Studies (http://metrostudies.berkeley.edu),
the Center for Community Innovation (http://communityinnovation.berkeley.edu),
the Center for Cities and Schools (http://citiesandschools.berkeley.edu),
and other centers on campus that are building partnerships with communities.
