I have often thought of the strange life of 'my' poems when they have
left me. I have seen some cut out and stuck on fridges with magnets,
and heard some people discussing one not knowing I was listening at a
party; and seen another parodied hideously in an academic presentation
... But yesterday I found a couple of poems by MAX RICHARDS arrive at
my address in the backblocks of China. A very strange journey indeed.
They were originally published in TirraLirra magazine, out of
Melbourne, Australia, possibly from 2004 - Volume 14, Number 3. It
came among New Ideas, New Yorkers, Spectators, Bulletins, as fodder
for my media students. What a pleasant surprise, Max, to read 'Open
Day among the Buddhists' and 'Voluntary Guide, Botanic Gardens,
Melbourne' here in downtown Linfen. Of course, poems on the 'Net go
everywhere, but printed poems have a long and winding road of their
own.
