----Background and Motivation of the Workshop----

Over the last few years, the use of collaborative knowledge management
systems (social tagging systems, wikis, blogs, etc.) has been exploding
on the web. This phenomenon is mainly due to the fact that no specific
skills are needed for publishing, but also to the social interactions
these systems offer.
However, while these systems grow larger, users start to criticise the
inherent lack of transparent structure in the organisation of resources
(e.g. tagging tags). This poses new challenges and fundamental questions
to collaborative knowledge management (CKM) systems. Although similar
issues have been studied for a long time in Artificial Intelligence
(AI), especially in the knowledge representation community, a transfer
of suitable methods is lacking so far. There is an urgent need to adapt
theoretical foundations to the new challenges that collaborative
knowledge management systems are posing.
Even though most CKM tools were initially designed for individuals,
there is an increasing demand for adapting their use to the context of
companies with the idea of supporting the social network within. With
knowledge being an increasingly important resource, knowledge workers
play a key role in companies nowadays. Teamwork and efficient
communication between workers in a company, supported by CKM tools, can
be a crucial factor to increase organisational efficiency and to form
the basis for innovations.
Social Network Analysis (SNA) is one of the methods most often used to
elicit, visualise and analyse social relations or to detect the
underlying social network. Social relations are a fundamental part of
CMK applications. These applications define and promote relations
between persons and groups. Although it is a promising means to study
the underlying social networks in CKM systems in enterprises, the
application of SNA in this context has not been investigated so far.

----Topics----

This workshop addresses both general issues concerning CKM systems, as
well as questions arising in the context of companies, especially
concerning the application of SNA. It serves as a platform for
communication, to exchange the latest research results, and develop
advanced visions for applying CKM tools. In particular, the workshop
invites contributions discussing the following issues:

* How will current and emerging CKM systems support untrained users
in sharing knowledge within the coming years, or within
  different kinds of systems?
* What approaches, methods, and tools from AI can be transferred
  to CKM systems?
* What can traditional AI learn from the recent developments on the web?
* To what extend can the benefits of CKM in Open Source Communities be
related or transferred to a corporate context? How can the
effectiveness of applying CKM tools be substantiated?
* How can CKM systems support group formation processes? Which
influences on organisational culture exists by applying CKM software
in an organisation (or vice versa)? Are there approaches to evaluate
the effectiveness and the benefit of such applications?
* How can wikis or weblogs be applied for CKM? Is there a need for
  semantic wiki?
* Are there successful case studies referring to CKM systems in the
  enterprise?
* To what extent can SNA methods be applied to analyse CKM systems?
* Are there approaches for elicitation, visualisation and analysis of
  social relationships in CKM systems?
* In what way can organisational social networks be altered in order to
  increase knowledge exchange and creation?
* Is there a correlation between communication patterns or network
formations and the business performance of a company?

In addition to insights into current research like empirical studies or
prototype design and evaluation, the workshop especially welcomes
position papers discussing the foundations of the workshop’s topics.
This will enable the participants to share their views about the
underlying theories and concepts as well as to recognize theoretical and
practical limitations. In addition, contributions that do not
necessarily comply with the above mentioned topics, but are related to
CKM or the SNA approach will also be considered.

----Addressed Audience----

The workshop addresses two target groups:

* Scientists can exchange their experiences about the advantages and
  disadvantages of modelling methods.
* Practitioners can experience the opportunities which currently exist
in prototype or in practical applications.

----Submission----

Papers should not exceed eight (8) pages and have to follow the WM2007
formatting guidelines (http://www.wm-tagung.de/stylesheet). Furthermore
they must be submitted using the conference system
(http://wm-tagung.de/conferencesystem/) in the pdf format. Papers will
be evaluated anonymously by three independent evaluators from the
program committee.
At least one of the authors of the accepted article has to be registered
for the conference before the delivery of the camera-ready paper.
Otherwise the article will not be included in the proceedings. All
participants of the workshop need a registration for the conference.

----Important Deadlines----

15. October 2006 Submission of workshop papers
15. November 2006 Notification of acceptance/rejection
23. December 2006 Submission of final version
