Subject: New Limited Edition Book by Austin Osman Spare

 Adventures in Limbo

by

 Austin Osman Spare.

With an Afterword by Keith Richmond.

A beautifully crafted work comprising reproductions of twenty-four pencil sketches from a previously unpublished sketchbook by Austin Osman Spare.  The book is an oblong quarto (215mm tall x 320mm long), with a printed dustjacket folded over thick card covers, published by the Neptune Press of London.  The sketches are superb facsimiles of the originals, one to a page, single-sided, and printed on heavyweight 500 year ‘Goatskin parchment paper.’  The work also includes an historical Afterword by Keith Richmond.

The drawings, with color pencil flourishes, were executed by Spare in 1944 and 1945, whilst he was still recovering from the injury and trauma of being ‘bombed out’ during the Blitz, a few years earlier.  Spare considered the work in the book, which he titled Adventures in Limbo, to be amongst the ‘best’ of his work at the time, and described it modestly as ‘a fairly representative sample of my inventive work.’

This, the first publication of Adventures in Limbo, is printed in an edition limited to one hundred and seventy-four copies.  Of these, twenty-four copies have been reserved for private distribution, with one hundred and fifty numbered copies available for sale.      $69.50 each.

Official release: September 15, 2006.  Given the genuinely small limitation, we strongly recommend that you place your order swiftly to avoid disappointment.
