Dear fellow Aacorners,

I think the following information could be of interest to all those of you who teach or in a way or another play a role with students, or simply to those who would like to begin a research within a really good context. University for humanistics' DBA program is open-minded, disruptive, demanding, and...humanising! I speak by experience, as I am personnally following this programm for two years now.
We need some places like that, where new connections for organisationnal studies can be made with different fields and notions with a reliable academic framing.

Please follow the info to al those who could feel concerned!

PhD/DBA Programme “Humanization of Organization”

The University for Humanistics (The Netherlands) offers a PhD/DBA Programme in “Humanization of Organization”. This programme is modelled along the lines of the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) in that it incorporates taught modules, structured supervision and peer support.

“Humanization of Organization” is a part-time programme designed for working professionals with an interest in the humanization of work, complexity theory, organizational anthropology, training and innovation, and ‘meaning in organization’. The main focus of the programme is organizational change, social theory and qualitative research methodology. Research, theory and practitioners’ insights all have a role to play.

The PhD/DBA has not only intellectual and professional value for its participants, it also provides value for the employer. Themes such as coherence and complexity, knowledge management and communities of practice, leadership and social responsibility, are of importance to many organizations. The community of researchers formed by the participants and university faculty is a source of new practices, critical review and innovation.

The faculty unites leading scholars in the fields under study. The programme is a unique product of co-operation between the University for Humanistics (Utrecht), the University of Essex (England) and the Copenhagen Business School (Denmark).

The programme is divided into three parts. During the first year, in the course of four workshops, participants familiarize themselves with the goals and philosophy of the programme, organizational and social theory, and research methods. During the second and third year two joint workshops are held each year (one abroad) where participants present their research in a mini conference setting. Besides these workshops there will be a series of small workshops around research methodology and techniques. In the fourth year participants revise and complete their thesis and will be mainly relying on individual supervision

Throughout the programme participants are closely supervised by an academic coach as well as advised by other academic members of the programme team.

The participants vary widely in educational and professional background and are employed in both profit and non-profit organizations. They share creativity, engagement in communication, and an academic attitude.

The programme language is English. Workshops are held at the University for Humanistics, Utrecht.Fee for first, second and third year € 5,202, fee fourth year: € 3,200, thereafter depending on amount of supervision. The due date for applications is 1 November. The programme starts in January.
