Dear Chris,

Well, there’s a can of worms (or sacred eels, perhaps). Would this be a toponymic analysis of names, or a landscape classification of locations and contexts, or a motif analysis of stories, or a structural typology of wellheads and cisterns? Or all of them at once?

My impression, for what it’s worth, is that holy wells look structurally just like any other wells in their neighbourhood. But others may know more.

Subject: Typology Holy Wells

Dear All,

Is anybody aware of any work done on the typology of holy wells? My search engine doesn't return any useful results.

All the best

Chris Kimberley
