Disabilities, equalities & inclusion - is your library ready?

a one- day course to update managers and staff in the requirements of the DDA, and the latest Disability Equality & Social Inclusion legislation

Wednesday 18th October 2006

10-4

MLA SW, Creech Castle, Taunton TA1 2DX http://www.mlasouthwest.org.uk/index.php?ID=105 (access codes W G )

Drawing on recent legislation and government and MLA reports, this course aims to provide public library services with a menu of options to meet and exceed DDA, Disability Equality and Social Inclusion requirements. It will help you to future proof service planning in the light of ongoing changes in legislation.

Aimed at strategic and operational managers as well as staff involved in direct service provision this event will address the concerns of how to identify and meet ever increasing requirements for access, equality and inclusion, in a time of diminishing resources.

The course will be run by Janet Bell, Access Consultant to museums, libraries and archives, and Jane Harris, Customer Care & Equalities Manager for Somerset County Council, and will be a combination of presentations and workshops with plenty of opportunity to raise practical concerns and network with colleagues from other authorities.

Delegates will be asked to choose to attend 2 of the following workshops - full details are on the attached booking form.

Equality and Inclusion in Policy Development and Management Issues in libraries; Consulting library users; Marketing library services and providing information to wider audiences; Using libraries for learning; Accessible environments, practices and procedures in libraries.

As a follow up, delegates will be sent a summary of the course and a suggested action plan compiled by Janet Bell.
