A blade server is the latest way to package a number of computers into a single form factor. It is essentially a housing for a number of individual, minimally-packaged computer motherboard ‘blades’, each including one or more microprocessors, including Dual Core, computer memory, computer storage and network connections, but sharing the common power supply and air-cooling resources of a single chassis. The idea being that by placing many blades into a single chassis and then rack mounting them is that complete ICT systems can be more compact and powerful, but less expensive that traditional systems based on server farms of individual computers.
