Hi all,

Great to see this activity regarding accessibility and Ubuntu-Edubuntu! Thanks Henrik, Nick, Steve and all!

I've recently been involved in a project run by the Swedish Institute for Special Needs Education - regarding accessibility and the availability of supportive tools on different computing platforms, including Windows, Thin client platforms, Linux and MacOS.

The information you provide here will be very valuable.
We will involve some local people here to investigate the different issues during the coming year, and I'll try to link them up firmly to this discussion.

I took a brief look at the situation in the Linux field before my summer holiday started. I had some problems finding good text-to-speech support tools, and to my surprise also a lack of other supportive tools for reading and writing, like word list and and word prediction etc. This seems to be a general problem, and in particular for other languages than English of course. All additional information on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Mats

That would be great.

I forgot to mention our introductory page on accessibility, here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/access which might be a good place to start.

There are also some critical reviews here:
