Department of Epidemiology & Public Health, UCL 
                      PHD STUDENTSHIP (ref 283)

The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health invites 
applications for an MRC funded research studentship beginning in 
October 2006, to work in one of the following areas: epidemiology 
and medical sociology, health psychology, or dental public health. 
The Department offers a unique environment to those wishing to 
undertake interdisciplinary study. Applicants should have (or 
expect to obtain) a first or upper second class degree in an 
appropriate discipline. An MSc in a relevant subject would also be 
an advantage.  All applicants are encouraged to visit the

studies and potential supervisors, considering their research 
interests in relation to this information.  

Each award will cover home fees and full stipend for three years. 
The stipend will be £14,000 pa in year one. Applications should 
include a CV, an indication of the topic area(s) of interest, a 
statement of research experience and interests, a clear indication 
of any financial awards already applied for or existing funding 
secured, and the names and contact details for two academic

Eligibility Criteria for MRC Studentships
Candidates for MRC Studentships must be able to demonstrate 
that they have a “relevant connection” with the United Kingdom at 
the date of application. In brief, this means you must have been 
ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years preceding your 
application. If you are not a UK citizen or do not fulfill the residency 
requirement you cannot be considered for this studentship. For
