Dear fellow list-members:
I have now written my "saints of the day" column for the list for five
years, and this seems to be an appropriate time to resign my
self-appointed hagiographical task. I've enjoyed doing it, and have
learned a great deal from some of the list discussions my column has
provoked. But I became chair of my department a year ago, and find
that I'm disastrously overcommitted. I hope somebody on the list will
consider taking on a similar task---perhaps a regular "this day in the
middle ages" column?---to help provide fodder for discussions.
