Dear List,

Current archaeological excavations at Mine Tenement in Combe Martin have revealed what may be a square buddle beneath 2m of over-burden.

Does anyone know when round buddles replaced square buddles date wise and what sort of size they were. The one in question is 8 feet wall to wall in one direction - the other direction is yet to be excavated out. There is a large quantity of silver grey fines against one wall which has been compressed by the over-burden into a glutinous clay material.

Kindest regards,

Trevor
