medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Today (18. June) is the feast day of:

Amandus of Bordeaux (d. c. 431) We know about
Amandus from the letters of Paulinus of Nola,
whom A. instructed in Christianity and baptized.
A. was a very good bishop of Bordeaux, chaste,
sober, and "worthy of God."

Autbert of Avranches (d. 725) Autbertus was a
bishop of Avranches. He founded the monastery of
Mont-Saint-Michel---after the archangel Michael
ordered him three times to do so. His relics
were elevated in 1012.

Elisabeth of Schönau (d. 1164) Elisabeth entered
the Benedictine convent of Schönau (Hesse) at the
age of 12, becoming abbess in 1157 (at the age of
about 28). She had a notable number of mystical
experiences, which she wrote down (and her
brother revised). Pilgrims still visit her
shrine.
