medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I attempted to demonstrate in a study "Le contexte idéologique du développement du culte de saint Mériadec en Bretagne au Bas Moyen Âge" (actes du colloque de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt 23-25 septembre 1999, Brest, 2000 [= Kreiz n° 14], p. 125-136) that the late development of the cult of st Meriadec in Brittany was resulting of an "inveiglement" by the powerful family of Rohan of the "inheritance" of legendary King Conan Meriadec.

I also tried to show that the vita of St Meriadec has been composed in Brittany circa 1430-1440 and taken to Cornwall where a local poet-playwright, before 1504, adapted it into a play written in Cornish Beunans Meriasek.
