medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

For the question of the employment of Irish and other bishops as suffragans by late medieval English Diocesans you might look at pp 47-50 and Appendix II of A Hamilton Thompson's The English Clergy and their Organisation in the Later Middle Ages. OUP, 1947. It explains the functions and status of the bishops - often for the most part friars - and why they did not operate in their titular sees. Since they were not Irish it is extremely unlikely, I would have thought, that they used Irish liturgical books.
