MPHIL IN ETHNIC AND RACIAL STUDIES

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND PHILOSPHY

TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN

‘This course is highly theoretical and provides sophisticated forms of instruction in the most up to date innovations within the field.  In my view this is the best course of its kind on offer in Europe’
(Prof Les Back, Goldsmith College London – External Examiner).

A few places are left for the MPhil in Ethnic and Racial Studies for the academic year 2006-7. This full time 12-months programme provides theoretical training in critical race studies, and is the only one of its kind in Ireland. The programme consists of two full-year core courses, seven one-term courses and a dissertation which is submitted in September.
Applicants should hold a good first degree in the social sciences or have a social science component in their first degree. In exceptional cases, applicants without a first degree may be accepted if they can demonstrate that they possess the equivalent of a good first degree.
The programme is ideally suited to public and voluntary sector workers and attracts an ethnically diverse international student body. Graduates serve in key social policy, NGO and research positions in Ireland and abroad.
