Dear All,

Sorry to ask a question unrelated to social history, but I couldn't
think where else to ask!

Could anyone in a museum which has converted from local authority status
to trust status give me an idea of the budget needed to do this, as a
proportion of current budget. The advice published by mla in March is
very helpful, in that it explains that the cost will be 'more' than the
cost of retaining the service within the council, 'at least initially'.

I was guessing that
in year pre-move, 5% budget extra
in year of move 15% budget extra
in year after move 10% budget extra 'felt' about right.

Fortunately, the council which is asking for these figures is not
asking, any more, for the costs of closing the museum - but if anyone
out there knows a cost-per-1000-objects of deaccessioning them, I'd love
to have that figure, too.

With best wishes, and apologies for the off-topicness,

Pat
Surrey Museums Development Officer
