Two years ago today (31 May 2004) Cyril Everard was awarded his PhD from University of London for his thesis ‘The Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands : ‘benchmark’, hydrographic, and geodetic surveys 1689-1980’. Sadly, as his widow informed me today, he died one week ago. His funeral will be held on Monday next.
His earlier, major carto-bibliographic, work - as some of you may recall - was ‘Michelin maps of the British Isles 1914 – c.1934 at the 1:200 000 scale’ (London : Dept of Geogr., Queen Mary and Westfield College, Univ. of London, [1999]), ISBN 0-904791-47-5.
