medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

At the other extreme, I don't know any work that better addresses some
of the poetics of medieval architecture and its iconography than Russell
Hoban's extraordinary (and experimental) Riddley Walker.

But, as it's set in a Dark Age several centuries in the future, in a
Kent whose geography centres around the radioactive remains of the crypt
to Anselm's Glorious Choir at Canterbury, don't expect much in the way
of historical accuracy...

It is a brilliant and wonderful book, however.
