medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Today (15. April) is the feast day of:

Paternus of Wales (5th or 6th cent.) Paternus was probably a native
of SE Wales. He founded the monastery of Llanbadarn Fawr near
Aberystwyth, serving as abbot and probably also bishop. Legend tells
that he was an avid missionary.

Paternus of Avranches (d.564) This Paternus was from Poitiers. He
became a monk but soon settled as a hermit near Coutances. He
founded a number of monasteries, including Saint-Pair, and became
bishop of Avranches at the age of 70.

Ruadhan (d. c. 584) Ruadhan was a disciple of St. Finnian of
Clonard. He founded the monastery of Lorrha (Co. Tipperary). A
great legend tells how he cursed Tara, causing it to be abandoned.
